What a difference a month makes....
Last month, we'd only just got the first of the daffodils, probably about 3-4 weeks later than normal, now, all the spring plants are flowering, and the trees are budding, and it finally feels like spring
My Magnolia Soulangeana is doing its 2 weeks of thing, for the year, - we'll spend the rest of the year raking up the leaves and debris it leaves on the lawn.
my early tulips which I showed at the Spring Show, are over, but these are called Spring green, and they look lovely next to my very blue hyacinths, - note to self, - these are a bit too close together!
My favourite spring flower is out, - Dicentra Spectabilis Alba, - these and the pink form, I add to lots of the borders that I plant, as they can't be beaten for spring elegance. Their only disadvantage is that they won't stand up to footballs, but hopefully they flower before little boys and girls have got too active in the garden.
My Kerria Flore Plena is doing it's thing all at once. We gave this a really good thin through last Autumn as we removed some of the rose that is growing round it, - and it has responded really well, - Kerria's need to be pruned from the base, taking out a 1/3 of the shoots including all the dead ones.
My sea of Thalia daffodils is doing well, and I really like the Brunnera Macrophylla behind them, - this was flowering in July last year, so can it really flower from now until then this year?
In the back garden, my primroses are still doing well, and my Peach is flowering
and my Autumn planted hanging basket is still going strong, which pleases me as my clients usually get all the best ones, and mine has the leftovers!
That's it for April in my garden, i'm looking forward to what's coming out over the next couple of months. thanks as ever to Carol at May Dream Gardens for hosting this bloom day, - pop on over there if you want to see what's blooming all over the world in April.
