Easy Sunflowers
August 12, 2010
Ok, I have to admit it, the best looking sunflower in my garden this year isn't one of the ones sown in pots by me and lovingly cared for and protected from slugs and watered regularly and put out after the danger of frost has past.
It's this one
So I guess there are Sunflower seeds in that bird mix.....
The same has happened in my mum's garden and the self-seeded sunflowers are magnificent- 7-8ft high.
As plants the self-seeded sunflowers seem far stronger, more healthy and have increased resilience to pests such as slugs. Think my days of carefully nurturing sunflowers in pots may be over. Next year I'm just spreading sunflower bird seed on the ground and letting nature do the rest. :-)
